Lebanon has been gripped with grief and anger following a massive explosion in the capital Beirut.
According to the Metro, the colossal blast that rocked the city on Tuesday has left 300,000 homeless, 5000 injured, and currently 135 casualties.

Across the world tributes have been pouring in for victims of the tragedy, with a ceremony held in London’s Kensington Gardens and French football team Paris Saint-Germain holding a moment’s silence.

Meanwhile the Guardian reports that the explosion can be traced to a massive stash of ammonium nitrate, stored in the port since 2014 despite warnings of the substance’s dangers.

This has provoked furious backlash in a country already gripped by financial turmoil, culminating in the former PM’s convoy being attacked by an angry mob.
