Boy, 11, mauled to death by bears after getting too close during photo op

A 11-year-old boy has died after being mauled to death by two bears at a Russian zoo during a photo op that went wrong.

According to The Daily Mail newspaper, the young boy was killed whilst trying to take a photograph with the two bears at a zoo in the Dagomys District of Sochi.

The Daily Mail reports that the boy was killed after managed to make his was into an unlocked outer enclosure.

It is believed that the young boy was trying to impress two girls as he slapped the bears paws and tried to get a close up photo.

However tragically the boy was dragged into the enclosure via a hole by the bears who reportedly threw him around like a ball according to eyewitnesses.

It is understood that the two bears were shot dead by staff at the zoo who tried to rescue the boy, but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police investigating the incident say the two young girls who have been left traumatised following the incident have been provided with psychological counselling.
