In a PR stunt to celebrate International Women’s Day, Burger King tweeted “Women belong in the kitchen” and then followed up their controversial tweet saying “If they want to of course. Yet 20% of chefs are women,
“We’re on a mission to change the gender ratio in the restaurant industry by empowering female employees with the opportunity to pursue a culinary career.”
“We are proud to be launching a new scholarship programme which will help female Burger King employees pursue their culinary dreams!”
According to the Metro, twitter members have accused Burger King of bad taste on a day that’s supposed to celebrate women worldwide.
Fast food outlets pay and work conditions for both are to the lower end of the socio-economic spectrum for both men and women and some are saying to improve working conditions for both genders rather than pay lip service to “gender equality.”
