Jens Nygaard Knudsen, the inventor of the iconic ‘Lego people’ has passed away, aged 78.
Knudsen worked as a designer for Lego between 1968 and 2000, and his crowning achievement was the invention of the now legendary minifigures, which were first released in 1978.
He also worked in some of Lego’s most iconic lines, such as Space and Pirates.
Knudsen was struck down by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) -the same disease that affected Stephen Hawking- and passed away in a hospice on Saturday.
