The West and South of the country were subjected to gale force winds on Thursday night, but it seems that Storm Lorenzo thankfully passed without causing any major damage.
Although winds are expected to remain strong this morning, it seems the much talked about storm wasn’t as bad as previously expected as winds reached 107km/h overnight considerably lower than the 130km/h previously forecast.
According to Met Eireann, the storm will lose intensity as it moves across the country this morning, however the public are being advised to proceed with caution as fallen debris will be on some roads.
The public are also being advised to stay away from exposed beaches and high cliffs this morning.
Meanwhile ESB crews are expected to work throughout the day on Friday to restore power to homes and businesses.
According to the ESB Networks over 1,100 homes are without power in Co Galway this morning, whilst a further 1,000 homes in Charleville Co Cork are also currently without power.
Despite the initial warnings its seems that the storm has thankfully caused no major damage.
