Thousands of people attended vigils across the island of Ireland to remember two men killed in Sligo over the past week.

Aidan Moffitt, 41, and Michael Snee, 58, were found dead after being murdered. Both men were found in the homes and are thought to have met their attacker online through a dating app.

Vigils in Sligo Town were repeated across the island, with more than 30 events taking place in towns on both sides of the border. Other vigils will take place in the coming days.

It’s understood that the majority of vigils were organised by LGBTQ2S+ groups.

Hundreds of people gathered outside Sligo Town Hall to pay their respects to the men. Several speakers addressed the crowd, including the Mayor of Sligo, Arthur Gibbons.

The Liberal photographed the above crowd outside the Dail at the Dublin vigil.

22-yr-old Yousef Palani, who was not born in Ireland and was granted “naturalised Irish citizenship” is charged with murdering both men and attacking a third person over the past week in Sligo.
