A lightning strike has been named as the most likely cause of the crash that killed 41 people at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport on Sunday evening.
The aircraft, a Russian-made Sukhoi Superjet 100 model operated by Aeroflot, crash landed on the runway on its second attempt to return to the airport. The fuselage caught fire upon hitting the ground.
Forty-one people, including two children, are confirmed dead.
The aircraft’s black boxes have been located, and an investigation into the accident is scheduled to begin shortly.
