A Co Limerick woman has appeared before Limerick District Court charged with drink driving. The woman in question was arrested after she pulled over to offer assistance to a plain clothes Garda with a flat tyre.

According to a report in The Limerick Leader the woman Siobhan Cusack, 37, was found guilty and fined €500 she was also disqualified from driving for three years, following the bizarre  incident on June 21st last year.
Garda Colm O’Shea described the incident in court saying that he  had noticed one of the rear tyres was flat shortly after beginning his shift at 9pm, he then proceeded to pull over to change the tyre. Mr O’Shea then told the court shortly afterwards Ms Cusack stopped to offer her assistance, he said: “A female got out, approached and was unsteady on her feet, as she walked towards us,” said O’Shea. “She offered us assistance in changing the tyre, but I declined her offer.”

It is then understood Mr O’Shea noticed that Ms Cusack had a slurred speech and a smell of alcohol off her breath, O’Shea then proceeded to follow her back to her vehicle, Ms Cusack was subsequently arrested after  another officer arrived at the scene.

Mr O’Shea finalized his statement by telling the court when she was breathalysed at the station, Ms Cusack returned a result of 101mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, almost five times the limit of 22mg.
