Liz Truss will become the UK’s next prime minister today after beating Rishi Sunak in race to succeed Boris Johnson to see who’ll be living and working in Number 10 Downing Street.

The Foreign Secretary won the leadership race to become the next leader of the Conservative Party, and thus Prime Minister, in an election of Conservative members.

Truss, who was the favourite to win, will succeed Boris Johnson on Tuesday as the country’s third female leader.

The Foreign Secretary used her victory speech to indicate that she would not call an early general election, but she pledged to secure “a great victory for the Conservative Party in 2024”.

She won by a comfortable margin, but her victory was narrower than in other recent leadership contests.
