Local wildlife experts have estimated that around 25,000 koalas have died at Kangaroo Island during the Australian bushfires.

The Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park in South Australia was home to one of the largest koala populations in the entire country. 25,000 specimens, or about half of the entire population, may have been lost.
