Lockdown part 3? Varadkar claims enhanced restrictions may be needed again in early 2021

Whether we get out of lockdown next fully remains anyone’s guess, but it’s looking more than likely that it’ll just be for a couple of weeks at best, if Leo Varadkar is anything to go by.

The Tanaiste Leo Varadkar announced in the Dail on Tuesday night that so-called “enhanced restrictions” may be needed across Ireland once again in January or February.

The former Taoiseach was speaking as covid numbers remain quite stable but not overly reduced with 226 cases today and 6 further deaths.

The government will announce on tomorrow or Friday just what will and will not be allowed reopen next Wednesday when Level 5 is due to be lifted. However, judging by Varadkar’s comments today, it appears that the lifting of lockdown restrictions may be only for the festive season.
