Lockdown set to be extended until March 5th with tougher restrictions to be imposed

The Government look set to extend Level 5 restrictions until March 5th with tougher restrictions set to be imposed.

It is understood that cabinet Ministers will sign off on the agreement tomorrow following a day of talks.

Under the restrictions mandatory quarantine will be introduced for those entering the country without a negative PCR test and for those who travel into the country from South Africa and Brazil.

The restrictions will also see all non essential retail being closed and construction will remain closed unless for essential reasons.

Meanwhile schools will remain closed and further Garda checkpoints will be introduced.

There will also be Garda checkpoints near airports with greater fines being issued to those who breach the travel restrictions.
