London has been left in shock by the murder of a long serving police officer in a detention centre.
According to the BBC, the sergeant was shot in the chest by a man while in the custody suite of a police vehicle in Croydon. It is understood the man subsequently attempted to shoot himself, but has now been arrested.
The victim was reportedly just weeks from retirement after decades of service at the Met, and has been described by one colleague as ‘one of a kind’. Questions will be raised as to how an officer was shot dead inside a supposedly secure police vehicle.
