It has transpired that the Luas drivers are no closer to reneging on their planned strikes as further escalation is now expected over the coming days.

Transdev have offered the drivers various packages, to which they’ve consistently declined.

The drivers want to increase their starting salary of already €36,000 per annum to a hefty €42,000 a year, including free GP care and holiday benefit.

Uproar has occurred on social media as the public isn’t happy with the stoppages taking place, disrupting the city, travel plans, work and even now the students trying to make their way to their Leaving Cert examinations.

No sympathy is going towards the drivers way. Calls to “sack them all now” resonate across social media.

Meanwhile the drivers are quoted as saying at the picket line to reporters that “we couldn’t care less what the public think, we’re in this for the long haul”.
