Ludicrous: An Bord Pleanala gives the go ahead to national children’s hospital – in the middle of traffic congested Dublin city

In what can only be described as a ludicrous planning permission decicion, An Bord Pleanala has given the go ahead to a national children’s hospital located near Rialto on St James’ Hospital campus in Dublin City.

The problem here is – the area is already under major traffic pressure and given the extra number of people who will be working, staying and visiting the hospital, this will inevitably mean that there could be an extra hour of driving to get to the hospital in the first place.

This means that parents visiting from the country will have to leave their house at least an extra hour beforehand to see their child in the new hospital.

An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for the new children’s hospital on a campus shared with St James’s Hospital in Dublin.

The project will bring together the three existing children’s hospitals – Temple Street Children’s University Hospital, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and the National Children’s Hospital, Tallaght.

There has been much controversy of the suitability of the site including Independent TD Mattie McGrath who called the project a “big mistake”.
