Three people in the UK have died after consuming pre-packed sandwiches infected with listeria that were supplied to hospitals in England by the Good Food Chain.
Public Health England announced that six people have become seriously ill from consuming the infected sandwiches and three of those people have since died.
The source of the outbreak was identified after meat supplied by the North Country Cooked Meats tested positive for listeria. All foods supplied to hospitals by the company were immediately removed.
North Country Quality Foods who supply English hospitals has also voluntarily ceased operations until the outbreak has been eliminated.
Recently Willowbrook Foods of Newtownards Northern Ireland recalled products from Aldi, Supervalu and Lidl containing bacon after it was discovered that a strain of listeria was present in the foods. Luckily no one has been left seriously ill so far from this outbreak.
