Gardai in Co Galway have confirmed that a major search operation is underway after a hiker has gone missing in Connemara.
It is understood that the hiker went missing after getting into difficulties whilst climbing the Glencoughan Horseshoe in the Twelve Bens.
Gardai say the hiker was reported missing shortly before 4pm this afternoon and a search of the area has been taking place since.
They added that the Galway Mountain Rescue Team along with other volunteers are carrying out a search.
