Malta Gives Summer a Proper Send-off with Three Major Music Events

Malta, the longest island in the Maltese Republic, is located in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and North Africa. With a total area of just 316 square kilometres, it is what is known as a “microstate:” a tiny, independent state that has its own government and is recognized as its own nation.

Each year, the island receives over 300 days of sunshine — that’s over 3,000 hours! — which is perfect, seeing as there is no shortage of beautiful beaches to sunbathe on. Each beach is unique, with shores ranging from rocky to pebbly to sandy, and they all lead up to crystal clear water that invites you to dive right in.

There are also temples to visit that are older than the Great Pyramids in Egypt, and so many stunning, ornate churches in Malta that it would take you an entire year to visit them all!

With tourist season winding down, you would expect that the festivities in Malta would be coming to a close. But we are far from summer’s last song. From rock and roll to electronic dance music to a celebration of one of the most famous bands of all time, September is jam-packed with musical events in Malta.

Malta Rocks (17 September 2021)

The first annual Malta Rocks concert kicks off in The Granaries in Floriana on September 17th. This event lends the stage to local musicians and features artists such as Destiny, Lapes, Red Electric, The Busker, and many more.

The goal of this event is to dive head-first into the post-COVID music era by allowing concert-goers to attend musical events live and in person again. To maintain the safety of everyone involved, vaccination certificates will be required, and social distancing measures will be followed. Get your tickets here.

It’s a Kind of Magic – The Queen Story (24 September 2021)

In the words of Freddie Mercury, the show must go on! In what has been described as “a spectacular explosion of sound,” It’s a Kind of Magic — The Queen Story tells the tale of the band that rocked the world. With songs by Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, and of course, Queen itself, a cast of star singers will be joined by a rock band and the 60-piece BBC Concert Orchestra to bring you a night you won’t soon forget.

Just like with Malta Rocks, vaccination certificates will be required, as will social distancing. Get your tickets here

Pete Tong Classics (28 September 2021)

World-renowned DJ and dance pioneer Pete Tong closes out September with a concert in The Granaries featuring The Heritage Orchestra and conductor Jules Buckley. Together, they will give fans a fresh, new, electronic take on classical music that will have concert-goers heading to the dance floor in droves.

As always, vaccination certificates and social distancing is required, but rest assured that you will still be able to dance the night away! Get your tickets here

Travel and COVID-19 Considerations

Eighty-two percent of the adult population of Malta has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, making this island the number one vaccinated tourist destination in the European Union. This means you can relax and enjoy your trip knowing that you are safe and secure on the island.
