Man (28) charged with murder charge after three children die in Sydney fire

After a home fire in Sydney, Australia, that claimed the lives of three children, including a five-month-old girl, police have charged a 28-year-old man with murder, reports RTE.

According to media accounts, the man reportedly set fire to the house while his partner and her seven children were inside.

Earlier, the police declared that they were handling the case as a “domestic-related homicide” since he thwarted their attempts to enter the premises.

According to a statement from New South Wales state police, the unidentified man, who is being held under police protection in a hospital, has been charged with three charges of murder, five counts of attempted murder, and one crime of damaging property with the purpose to endanger life, reports RTE.

The man is anticipated to appear in court today over a hookup from his hospital bed, according to police, who are handling the case.

After a fire tore through a property in the Lalor Park neighbourhood of Sydney, some 35 km west of the city centre, emergency services were summoned at around 1 am on Sunday (4 pm on Saturday Irish time), reports RTE.

A five-month-old child and two boys, ages two and six, perished. They have not yet received an official identity.

Three boys, ages four, seven, and eleven, together with a nine-year-old girl, were brought to the hospital along with a 29-year-old lady.

Since then, the mom has been freed, and the kids’ health has not changed, reports RTE.
