A man has been accused of killing a woman in Dublin ten days before Christmas last year.

On the evening of 15 December 2022, Emma McCurry, a mother of two in her 40s, was pronounced dead at her Howth Road home in Clontarf after a fire broke out on the evening of 15 December 2022, reports RTE.

George Turner, who is 53 and has an address on Fairview Avenue in Fairview, has appeared in Dublin District Court on charges of murdering her.

Garda Detective Cliff Singleton told Judge Gerard Jones that he approached Mr Turner at Clontarf Garda station shortly after 7.30 pm last night.

He said the defendant has not responded to the allegations, reports RTE.

Defense attorney Tony Collier said he would not seek bail because there was no way the murder charge could be tried in the district court.

He requested a psychiatric evaluation for his client, saying he had a history of mental illness.

Justice Jones remanded Mr Turner to appear in Cloverhill Court on Friday 24 March and approved an application for legal aid, reports RTE.
