Gardai have arrested a man in his 20s following an assault and a subsequent stand-off in Mallow, Co. Cork.
The incident began at around 2am earlier today, when a woman in her 20s contacted Gardaí after escaping from a house in Sandfield Terrace.
Emergency services rushed her to Cork University Hospital, where she was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, the lone occupant of the house, a young man in his 20s, refused to obey Gardai and come out of the premises. A stand-off lasting several hours ensued.
Eventually, the man was persuaded to give himself up and the incident came to an end at around 6.30am.
Gardai arrested him and took to Mallow Garda Station for questioning.
