A contractor from Co Fermanagh who was discovered driving around Dublin with counterfeit number plates and an allegedly stolen wheel clamp “sitting beside him” has been remanded in custody
Eugene Wynne, 45, of Teemore Road, Derrylin, Enniskillen, appeared before Dublin District Court on Saturday, reports Breaking News.
The father of three is charged with two counts relating to the fraudulent use of vehicle registration plates, damaging a Dublin City Council wheel clamp, and possessing the clamp as stolen property.
He also faces allegations of driving without valid insurance, a licence, road tax, or an NCT certificate on Pearse Street, Dublin 2, on November 21st, reports Breaking News.
Garda Gareth Mitchell objected to bail, telling Judge Michele Finan that the accused had been seen driving on a public road with false front and rear registration plates.
He could not provide any paperwork for either himself or the vehicle, and “sitting beside him in the front passenger wheel arch was a damaged, stolen Dublin city council clamp”, reports Breaking News.
A check of the licence plate number revealed no matches, and further examination showed that the van was Irish-registered but lacked tax, insurance, and an NCT.
The court was informed that body-cam footage existed, although it was not shown during the hearing, reports Breaking News.
The garda expressed concerns that if released, the accused might not return to court and posed a flight risk due to residing outside the State.
Defence solicitor Paul Kelly told Judge Finan that the accused had lived at the same address for 21 years and was currently employed in Dublin, reports Breaking News.
The solicitor explained that he had been informed the van belonged to someone else, and the court heard it was registered to a company in Co Cavan.
Mr Wynne, who has not yet entered a plea, postponed his bail application and was remanded to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Thursday, reports Breaking News.
