A Tipperary man has been jailed for eight years for raping “a vulnerable and intoxicated” young woman in a Dublin hotel, reports RTE.
The Central Criminal Court heard that Dermot Brett, 56, of Sweet Auburn, Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dublin on January 11, 2019, pleaded not guilty.
The woman was a 20-year-old university student, reports RTE.
In May 2023, a jury found Brett guilty but maintained his innocence.
He has a conviction in road traffic matters.
The victim wants Brett to be identified while maintaining her anonymity.
The court heard the woman went out with friends but was asked to leave a pub in Dublin because she was under the influence of alcohol, reports RTE.
