The murder of his mother and the attempted murder of his father in County Cavan last weekend have been attributed to a 31-yr-old man, reports RTE.

About seven kilometres west of Ballyconnell, in the rural village of Kilnavart, Gardaí received a report of what they characterised as a significant event.

Annie Heyneman was declared deceased at the spot when gardaí arrived at the family residence, reports RTE.

After being discovered with severe injuries, the 55-year-old’s husband, Henk, was sent to Cavan General Hospital, where his status is stable.

In Kilnavart, Ballyconnell, Danny Heyneman was accused at Monaghan District Court with the murder of his mother, Annie Heyneman, and the attempted murder of his father, Henk Heyneman.

Cavan Garda Station Detective Sergeant Sharon Walsh provided evidence of arrest, charge, and caution, reports RTE.

According to information provided to the court, Danny Heyneman was taken into custody at Cavan Garda Station at 9:45 p.m. last night and did not respond while under caution.

When each of the two allegations were presented to him, he responded with “no comment” just before 10.45 p.m, reports RTE.

Since the district court lacks the authority to entertain bail in a murder case, no application for bail was made.

Attorney Damien Rudden did, however, request that his client be sent to Castlerea Prison, reports RTE.

Judge Raymond Finnegan denied this application, stating that the accused must be sent to the Cloverhill local detention facility.

Judge Finnegan remanded Danny Heyneman in jail to appear before Cavan District Court via video-link on Friday, stating that an additional application might be made at a later time, reports RTE.
