Man sent for trial over alleged sale of defective condoms

A man has been sent for trial due to the alleged sale of out-of-date or defective condoms.

It is claimed that 27-year-old Charles Ward, of Vicars Choral, Tuam, Co Galway, deceived a shop assistant in a Killarney store to pay him €240 for a batch of defective Durex condoms on August 12th, 2015.

Mr. Ward denies the charge, and his solicitor, Pádraig O’Connell, has stated that the allegation would be disputed. The judge asked what the allegation of ‘defective’ is based on.

It is alleged that Mr. Ward entered Hegarty’s Shop, Park Road, Killarney on the date, under the guise of being a delivery man. He told the shop assistant that the sale had been sanctioned by the manager, so the assistant handed over the cash.

Mr. Ward has been remanded on bail.
