A man who tried to push a woman in front of an oncoming tube train on his way to Notting Hill Carnival has been arrested, reports Metro.

Arthur Hawrylewicz, from Cardiff, had drunk up to four beers and a third of a litre of vodka before walking to King’s Cross underground station in London, where he approached his victim.

The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of María Osifeso on August 29 last year.

Prosecutor Suki Dhadda said the pharmacist was waiting at the dock around 1:15 p.m. when “she felt arms wrap around her waist in a bear hug-style grip,” reports Metro.

Constantinos Spyrou came between them and managed to free Ms. Osifeso just before the train caught up with her.

He then forced Hawrylewicz to the ground, where he moved like a “fish in a bellyflop movement”, banging his head against the equipment and losing consciousness.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, Ms Osifeso said she was ‘reeling’ and wondering ‘what if’, reports Metro.

She said, “What if my friends hadn’t been there? What if my male friend had not jumped in to grab him? What if I had been standing closer to the tracks?,” reports Metro.

Ms Osifeso added that the effects were ‘profound and long-lasting’ and she now suffered from ‘overwhelming anxiety’ when riding the Tube alone.

In her statement, she said she is “hyper aware”, standing with her back to the wall, holding on to the railing or standing at the top of the stairs until she could see the train coming, reports Metro.
