Man whose twins died in overheated car weeps in court at the “devastating loss of his children”

In a tragedy that is every parent’s worst nightmare, a man charged with manslaughter after allegedly leaving his two children in a car in 80 degrees heat has wept in court as prosecutors claim he told police “I killed my babies”.

Sky News, which reported the man’s outburst, described how Juan Rodriguez allegedly left his twins in his car before going to work in a nearby hospital.

Some eight hours later, Rodriguez is said to have realised what had happened and sped to the scene. Emergency services were called, but it was too late. After being stuck in the car for over eight hours on a day when temperatures climbed to over 80 degress Fahrenheit, they were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Rodriguez, who was released on $100,000 bail, is said to be inconsolable and devastated with grief. The death of his twins comes in the midst of a heatwave in the US and the tragedy has prompted further warnings of the danger of leaving small children and babies in cars.
