A man who suffers with locked-in syndrome has used eye-controlled technology to say ‘I do’. David Garvey (35) married his fiance Bernie in an emotional ceremony less than a year after he was discharged from hospital.

The couple booked their venue three years ago only for David to be admitted to intensive care weeks later. David spent the next two years in hospital but eventually got the wedding day they always wanted.

“I always knew we would get married, I just knew it would happen and it did. We had a fantastic day. It was very emotional,” said Bernie.

The couple wed at the Castle Arch Hotel, Trim. With the help of his sister Lynn, David wrote a heartfelt speech to be read on his behalf. Bernie was full of praise for the hotel staff who rang her while David was in hospital to see how he was doing.
