Manager of pub group gets awarded €45,000 after he was sexually harassed by female colleague

The manager of a chain of bars received a €45,000 compensation after enduring prolonged sexual harassment at work from a senior female co-worker, reports Breaking News.

In violation of the Employment Equality Act, the Workplace Relations Commission declared that the company’s group operations manager had experienced gender discrimination.

The man claimed that he had also been mistreated by his company and that he had been constructively fired from his position due to the improper actions of his female coworker, whom he saw as his manager, but the WRC rejected these allegations.

The unnamed pub group refuted the manager’s allegations and his allegation of constructive dismissal.

The post-pandemic crisis hitting the industry was cited as one of the reasons for his abrupt resignation, but it made no mention of any sexual harassment, reports Breaking News.

Additionally, according to the employer, the man completely disregarded the regulations that he was paid to follow as a senior manager in order to pursue a discreet, consensual relationship with a colleague at work prior to the relationship ending.

The WRC was informed that the financial controller for the group, a woman, started making advances towards her coworker in August 2021, three months into his new position after he had returned to the organisation where he had worked from 2012 to 2015, reports Breaking News.

But until he quit his employment in August 2022, the man said that his colleague continued to try to kiss him and that he received a steady barrage of lewd texts, images, and videos on WhatsApp.

He stated that the behaviour was completely undesired and infringed upon his dignity in a sexual manner.

The man claimed that the actions of his colleague had made his workplace scary, hostile, demeaning, and humiliating for him.

According to what the WRC heard, she constantly responded to his rejection by manipulating and abusing the complainant verbally and emotionally, making his work difficult, and ultimately forcing him to resign, reports Breaking News.
