In a stunt that is likely to divide football fans, a Manchester United supporter paid £200 (€225) for a signed Manchester City shirt before ripping it up and stamping on it. He then proceeded to “mop” up the floor with the torn shirt to the sounds of cheering all around him.

Michael Cooney said that it was all done for charity as he wanted to donate the sum of £200 to a charity that looks after people suffering from a rare illness that killed his friend’s daughter just last year.

Cooney holds a season ticket for Manchester United so there was no way he could bring the shirt in question into his house.
