A major manhunt was held over the past 24 hours after fugitive Joseph McCann was named by police for the abduction and rapes of three women. He is also wanted in connection with the kidnapping of two more women in Cheshire.

Police were initially investigating whether the man may be trying to flee the country, possibly travelling to Ireland or Scotland but thankfully he has since been caught.

He had been described by police as “extremely dangerous”. The 34-yr-old is suspected of being involved in two women being forced into a black Fiat Punto in Congleton town centre, Cheshire, at around 6.45pm on Sunday evening.

It’s understood that he got rumbled and crashed his car before running away on foot. The women were left in the car. They are unhurt but “extremely shaken”.

It’s now been confirmed that police managed to corner him and eventually arrested him after he was caught hiding out in a tree.
