Marie Fredriksson, the female half of the Swedish pop duo Roxette, has passed away aged 61.
Roxette, made up of Fredriksson and stage partner Per Gessle, had a string of hits throughout the 90s and beyond, selling over 80 million records worldwide.
Fredriksson was first diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain tumour in 2002. Initial treatment was successful, and she was able to return to world stages.
She was forced to retire in 2016 due to ongoing medical problems.
Fredriksson is survived by her husband and two children.
