Martin describes Israeli strikes in Gaza as a complete ‘war crime’

The Tánaiste claims that people are being driven from their country and called the Israeli strikes in Gaza a “war crime,” reports Breaking News.

It happens as Palestinian health authorities report that an eight-member family was murdered in an Israeli attack in Gaza.

The dead were transferred to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in neighbouring Deir al-Balah. The attack struck a residence in the Nuseirat refugee camp late on Saturday, killing the parents and their six children, ages eight to twenty-three, reports Breaking News.

Michael Martin declared that the “horrific” events taking place in Jabalia, north of Gaza, had to end.

“An offensive by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), backed by tanks and air strikes, has left dozens of civilians dead, many close to starvation, and access to humanitarian aid extremely curtailed,” Mr Martin said in a statement, reports Breaking News.

“An entire population is being encircled and forced out, with nowhere for them to go. This represents a mass expulsion of people from their homeland. It is a war crime, and the international community must use every lever at its disposal to pressure Israel to stop this war. The UN and the world’s media must be allowed immediate access to witness what is happening. This war must end,” reports Breaking News.

The growing violence in Lebanon, according to Justice Minister Helen McEntee, is “extremely worrying.”

According to her, the security of Irish peacekeepers is continuously monitored.

The UN said on Saturday that another peacekeeper was hurt by gunfire in the southern region of Lebanon, reports Breaking News.

Following continued military action in the region, a peacekeeper at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) headquarters in Naqoura was struck by gunfire on Friday.

According to Unifil, the source of the gunshots could not be verified, reports Breaking News.

“This is something that is kept under consideration consistently, we’re getting hourly reports from the UN as to what is happening. Obviously, the uniform troop work together. Our peacekeepers are not the only country there represented, and the decision had been taken over the last number of weeks to stay there. These are hugely capable, experienced peacekeepers, but we need to make sure that they are safe, and obviously, following that announcement, I’m sure there will be further engagement in our Taoiseach. Israel are not listening here. Israel have crossed international law. They do so every time they injure and kill innocent civilians, be it in Gaza or elsewhere, and now they are directly targeting uniform peacekeepers,” reports Breaking News.
