
Following the US president’s announcement that he would not running for reelection, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald expressed gratitude to Joe Biden for being a “really strong champion of Ireland”.
His vice president, Kamala Harris, has emerged as the front-runner to be the Democratic nominee, against the recently confirmed Republican contender, former president Donald Trump.
In response to a question concerning Mr. Biden’s departure from the race, Ms. McDonald stated that Ireland owed him gratitude for his assistance in ensuring that there would not be a hard border on the island of Ireland during the Brexit discussions.
She stated, “I think it has to be acknowledged that President Biden has been a really strong champion of Ireland in terms of stepping aside.”
“He is, of course, a proud Irishman. I think particularly in the course of Brexit, he was instrumental in ensuring that there was no hardening of the border on the island of Ireland. We owe him a thank you for that. The appointment of Joe Kennedy as an economic envoy to the North has been extremely constructive and very, very helpful, reports Breaking News.
In order to stop the rising number of fatalities and injuries in Gaza and to assist in mediating peace between Israelis and Palestinians, she said that the incoming US president should alter the country’s ties with Israel.
“I have to say, I hope also that whoever is the next president of the United States confronts Israel, confronts the slaughter that is ongoing there, stops arming Israel’s campaign of slaughter against Palestinians, and actually repositions the United States to a place where it was a long time ago,” reports Breaking News.
