
The family of Alexander Coughlan have paid a heartbreaking tribute to their “caring and selfless” loved one following his death after a violent assault near his home in Blanchardstown, Dublin, reports The Mirror.
Alex Coughlan, aged 37, was found unconscious on Mill Road in Blanchardstown on Sunday, 17 May, following what gardaí described as a completely unprovoked attack.
He was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown in a critical condition and died three days later, reports The Mirror.
In a crowdfunding statement shared by the family, they said: “It is with deep sadness that we share the heartbreaking, tragic passing of our beloved Alex Coughlan.”

“Alex was truly loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, warmth, and presence touched so many lives, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him,” the statement read, reports The Mirror.
In an extraordinary final act of generosity, his family confirmed that Alex’s organs had been donated to help others, describing it as “a lasting gift that reflects the caring and selfless person he was.”
The family expressed their deep gratitude to the staff at Connolly Hospital for their “compassion, support and kindness” throughout the ordeal, reports The Mirror.
Alex had worked in the insurance sector and had a background in sales, having previously worked for companies including Sky and PayPal, reports The Mirror.
He attended Castleknock Community College and was remembered by those who knew him as a “lovely” man whose colleagues were said to have been deeply affected by his passing.
Two boys aged 16 were charged with assault causing serious harm and robbery in connection with the attack, reports The Mirror.
It was alleged that Mr Coughlan’s bank cards were used to make purchases by the accused and that gardaí found a gold ring belonging to him at the home of one of those charged.
Both were remanded in custody and are due to appear before the courts again, reports The Mirror.
His funeral will take place on Saturday after being waked in his mother’s house on Friday. May Alex rest in peace.
