
The funeral mass for Garda Kevin Flatley, who tragically lost his life after being hit by a motorcyclist while operating a speed checkpoint at Lissenhall near Swords on Sunday afternoon, is scheduled for this afternoon.
The mass will be held at St Peter and Paul’s Church in Balbriggan, Co Dublin at 1.30pm, followed by a private family burial in Newcastle, Co Dublin.
Large screens outside the church will broadcast the service live, and An Garda SÃochána will also stream the funeral on its Facebook page, beginning around 1.15pm, reports Breaking News.
Several traffic restrictions will be in effect in the area on Friday.
Gardaà have advised that parking around St Peter and Paul’s Church will be very limited, and the church’s adjacent carpark will be unavailable, as it will be used to accommodate the expected overflow from the church, reports Breaking News.
The funeral procession will depart from McNally’s Funeral Home on Drogheda Street in Balbriggan and proceed to St Peter and Paul’s Church on Friday, May 16th, before the mass.
To accommodate this, the main route through Balbriggan—R132, which includes Drogheda Street, Bridge Street, and Dublin Street—will be closed to all vehicles from 12pm until after the funeral proceedings. Detours will be implemented, reports Breaking News.
There will also be parking restrictions on the main street in Balbriggan starting from Thursday, May 15th, 2025.
Attendees have been urged to adhere to the guidance and instructions of stewards and gardaà near St Peter and Paul’s Church and are encouraged to consider using public transportation, reports Breaking News.
Balbriggan train station is about a 15-minute walk from the church and under five minutes away from McNally’s Funeral Home.
Gardaà have also advised that higher volumes of both traffic and pedestrians are expected around McNally’s Funeral Home on Drogheda Street, Balbriggan, on the evening of Thursday, May 15th, starting from 4pm, reports Breaking News.
