The funeral of Michael Gaine, a 56-yr-old sheep farmer from Kerry, is scheduled for today in his native Kenmare, reports RTE.

According to a notice posted on RIP.ie, the funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Church in Kenmare at 10.30am.

The notice said Mr Gaine, who was reported missing from his farm on March 20, will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by his grieving family and his friends in both the farming and rallying communities, reports RTE.

Reposing will take place at Finnegan’s Funeral Home in Kenmare starting from 2pm on Friday.

The family expressed their gratitude to the public for their “support and understanding at this extremely difficult time”, reports RTE.

They also requested that donations be made to Kerry Mountain Rescue and the National Search and Rescue Dog Association instead of sending flowers.

Initially, gardaí had classified Mr Gaine’s disappearance as a missing person’s case. However, they are now investigating it as a suspected murder.

Last month, human remains belonging to Mr Gaine were found in fields on his property while slurry was being spread by a family friend, reports RTE.
