Sinn Fein TD Mary Lou McDonald has been strongly criticized by the Dail disciplinary committee for abusing her parliamentary privilege in remarks made about alleged tax evasion.
The disciplinary action comes after the Sinn Féin deputy leader allegedly named six former politicians, who were all believed to have offshore bank accounts. The former politicians names were revealed last December by McDonald when she was debating the allegations of a civil service whistleblower investigating tax evasion by account holders at Ansbacher Bank.
Deputy McDonald has been told by the committee this afternoon that she seriously abused her privilege, and her remarks would have been extremely defamatory if she had made them outside the Dáil chamber.
