In the region of 500 people have attended a meeting in Co Galway this evening to voice concerns that a former hotel may be turned into a direct provision centre.

According to RTÉ News, Oughterard residents have requested that the Department of Justice clarify its reported plans for the Connemara Gateway Hotel.

It is believed that residents have become concerned with the Department’s plans given the lack of infrastructure in the region.

Although no official proposals have been outlined, it is believed that the department of justice is considering a refurbishment of the 60 room hotel.
