A member of the gardai is in hospital today following a serious assault in an Irish county.
The incident happened in the village of Blacklion, Co. Cavan, in the early hours of Monday morning.
It is understood that the male gardai was beaten, doused with a flammable liquid, and had a gun pointed at him.
He is recovering in Sligo University Hospital.
