Just three weeks ago, Taoiseach Micheál Martin and current leader of Fianna Fáil told the Dáil that planned increases in the Carbon Tax would be ‘offset’ so there would not be additional costs for householders.
However, news broadcasters this week reported that the cost of home heating oil, coal and peat briquettes all increased in price on 1st May due to higher carbon taxes.
RTE NEWS broadcast the carbon tax increases but memory-holed Micheal Martin’s previous comment that this fuel tax was to be “offset”.
Will any mainstream news broadcaster in Ireland ever hold government to account for their actions and broken promises?
