Met Eireann is forecasting severe thunderstorms to hit Ireland on Sunday as heatwave ends.

According to the national forecaster, today, Saturday, will be a very warm day, with temperatures reaching 28C at times. Some thundery showers might develop around western areas throughout the day.

Sunday is forecast to be a bright, sunny, and warm day, with temperatures again reaching 28C at times, and a strong likelihood of thundery showers developing in the afternoon.

The start of the working week will be noticeably cooler, with temperatures sinking back to low 20s at best. Western areas might see rain showers, with longer spells of rain possible towards evening.
