Met Eireann issue yellow status heavy rainfall and thunder warning for some counties

The prolonged spell of good sunshine is set to disappear for a short while as the national forecaster Met Éireann has issued a yellow status heavy rainfall and thunder warning.

Met Eireann say that counties in the midlands and the west could see heavy rainfalls today.

Although temperatures will remain in the mid 20s, the national forecaster warn that there is a possibility of flashing flooding in many areas on Friday.

Forecasters say the warning will remain in place until 9pm this evening, it is expected the brunt of the heavy rain will be in the west and midlands, although it is expected to move eastwards later in the day.

However it is expected the gloomy conditions will make way by nightfall and much more seasonal conditions are expected over the weekend with temperatures expected to reach the mid 20s once again.
