Met Eireann has issued a grim weather forecast for the coming Bank Holiday weekend, with heavy downpours predicted, though temperatures are set to remain fairly mild.

There will be some sunny spells breaking through, but conditions will be damp overall, with Munster and Leinster forecast to see the worst of the weather.

Saturday appears to be the best day of the lot, with mostly dry conditions nationwide, though there will be some showers across southern areas.

Sunday is expected to bring more widespread showers, heavy at times, particularly around southern and eastern areas.

Bank Holiday Monday will remain wet overall, worst in Munster and Leinster.
