This may be the first Bank Holiday of the summer, but it sure doesn’t much look like summer out there.

With heavy, thundery downpours expected across most areas of the country today, the weekend is looking like a washout.

Up to 30mm of rain are forecast in places. The west and north will be worst affected.

According to the national forecast service, it will be Sunday morning before the heavy showers begin to ease, and clearer weather will move in for a time.

Rain will put an appearance again tomorrow though, and a pattern of unsettled weather is set to continue into next week, with heavy winds expected by midweek.
