Met Eireann has issued an urgent warning of a cold snap starting on Thursday evening, with temperatures forecast to drop to almost freezing after dark.
According to the national forecaster, sleet and hail showers are likely across many areas during Thursday night.
Friday is currently expected to be a bright but cool day.
