The new storm names for the next storm season, which begins on Sunday, have been announced by Met Éireann, reports Breaking News.
The national meteorological service, the Met Office in the United Kingdom, and KNMI in the Netherlands have each added seven names to the list for this season.
The ideas provided by primary school students who took part in ESB Science Blast in February last year totalled over 500, from which Met Éireann selected its contributions, reports Breaking News.
The complete list of 2024–2025 includes the following people: James, Kayleigh, Lewis, Mavis, Naoise, Otje, Poppy, Rafi, Sayuri, Tilly, Vivienne, and Wren.
Conall, Darragh, Hugo, Izzy, Naoise, Poppy, and Vivienne are names that come from Ireland.
Following the name protocol of the US National Hurricane Centre, the letters Q, U, X, Y, and Z are not included.
Eoin Sherlock, head of the forecasting division at Met Éireann, said: “Our key priority is to help protect life and property from extreme weather and ensure the safety of our communities,” reports Breaking News.
