The weather forecast that many have been eagerly awaiting has arrived just in time for the May Bank Holiday weekend, reports The Mirror.
Predictions of a stretch of fine weather had been circulating recently, and they have now been confirmed in the latest updates from Met Éireann and one of Ireland’s leading weather experts.
Posting on social media on Sunday morning, Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather announced that we can expect “a fine week ahead with good sunshine and temperatures getting above 20C”, reports The Mirror.
Even better, this fine weather looks set to stick around right through to the Bank Holiday weekend next weekend, at least up until Sunday, although some uncertainty remains about what Monday might bring.
Met Éireann’s latest outlook is similar, forecasting “largely settled conditions” due to high pressure, with “plenty of dry, bright and warm weather on the way”. The warmest days are expected to be Monday and Wednesday, with temperatures forecast to climb above 20 degrees on both, reports The Mirror.
After a cloudy start to Sunday morning, the weather will gradually improve, becoming dry overall with highs of 19 degrees as “mild spells of hazy sunshine begin to break through”.
Monday is shaping up to be even better, as any early rain in the northwest clears away to bring another dry day. Warm or mild spells of hazy sunshine will spread widely across Ireland, with temperatures expected to hit highs of 21 degrees, reports The Mirror.
Tuesday will continue the fine spell with warm, sunny conditions and highs around 20 degrees, with Wednesday offering much the same apart from a risk of a few afternoon showers.
Met Éireann’s forecast suggests cloudier weather will move in on Thursday, along with the possibility of some isolated light showers. It will remain warm across Munster and Leinster, with highs between 15 and 20 degrees, but it will be cooler in Connacht and Ulster, where highs will only reach around 15 degrees, reports The Mirror.
High pressure is forecast to remain dominant over the Bank Holiday weekend, bringing mainly dry and settled conditions, although there may be a few light showers. Daytime temperatures are expected to dip slightly, with highs reaching the mid-teens.
Here’s the detailed Met Éireann forecast for the coming week:
A cloudy start with damp and misty conditions along some Atlantic coastal areas, particularly in northwestern parts. Most areas will stay dry and, later this afternoon, mild spells of hazy sunshine will develop, with just the odd isolated shower. Top temperatures will range between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius, with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, reports The Mirror.
Tonight will stay mostly dry, with some patches of mist and drizzle in parts, especially in the northwest. It will be mild, with temperatures staying between 9 and 12 degrees Celsius, and light southerly breezes.
Tomorrow, Monday, will see any leftover rain or drizzle in the northwest clearing away to leave a dry day. Mild or rather warm spells of hazy sunshine will become widespread. Highest temperatures will be between 15 and 21 degrees, with the warmest conditions away from southern counties, in a moderate south to southeast breeze, reports The Mirror.
Tuesday will be warm and sunny, with highest temperatures ranging from 16 to 20 degrees and a light southeasterly breeze. It will stay dry with clear spells overnight, although patches of mist and fog may form in light southeasterly or variable winds. Nighttime temperatures will fall to between 7 and 11 degrees.
Wednesday will again be mainly dry and sunny, although there is a chance of a few afternoon showers. Highest temperatures will be between 17 and 21 degrees in a light southerly breeze, reports The Mirror.
Wednesday night will stay mostly dry with clear spells before cloud builds in the northwest. Patches of mist and fog will develop in light southerly or variable winds, which will turn northwesterly by morning. Lowest temperatures will be between 8 and 12 degrees.
On Thursday, cloud will move southwards across the country bringing some light isolated showers. Temperatures will range from 11 to 15 degrees in Connacht and Ulster, and between 15 and 20 degrees in Munster and Leinster, with light to moderate northerly winds, reports The Mirror.
