A man is in critical condition in hospital after crashing a scrambler bike in West Dublin, reports The Mirror.

The man, aged in his 50s, is believed to have crashed a scrambler into a lamppost in the Kippure Park area of Finglas on Saturday evening.

According to sources, the man had been attending a gathering in the area and had asked for ‘a go’ on the 50cc bike before the accident happened. He was rushed to hospital, where his condition is described as critical, reports The Mirror.

It is understood he sustained serious head injuries in the crash.

When contacted, the Garda press office stated: “Shortly before 5pm on Saturday, 26th April 2025, Gardaí received a report of a serious injury collision involving a motorcycle in Kippure Park, Finglas, reports The Mirror.

“A man in his 50s was transported from the scene by ambulance and is currently receiving treatment at Beaumont Hospital.”

The incident follows just a week after the death of 18-year-old Jason Monks, a young father who died in a scrambler accident in Citywest, Dublin 24 last Sunday, reports The Mirror.

Jason lost his life after the scrambler he was riding collided with a car at around 8pm.

He was the father of a one-year-old child and lived in the Tallaght area of South Co Dublin, reports The Mirror.

Since his death, his mother Donna has shared several heartfelt tributes ahead of his funeral, which is scheduled for Monday morning.

“I don’t know how my life will ever be the same, I’m just broken. Jason you were my life, my happiness, my darling baby boy,” she posted on social media. We should still have had a lot more time together but God decided it was your time to go and I can’t understand why. I’ll love you always, my gentle giant,” reports The Mirror.

Jason’s funeral is set to be held at St Aidan’s Church, Brookfield at 10am on Monday, with burial to follow at Newlands Cross Crematorium.
