Met Eireann is today warning of a potentially long-lasting cold spell, which could remain for weeks.
According to the national forecaster, temperatures will begin to plummet today, leading to wintry falls, mainly on high ground around northern areas.
The outlook is for daytime temperatures remaining in single digits most of the time, with slight peaks into low double digits at times during the afternoon before sinking to just above freezing at night.
